Gwen's World

As it is above, so it is below.

Gwen Ontiveros - Biography

I live in a multidimensional universe. There my reality is a journey where I experience the immediate world I live in. I seek to experience my world in the highest energy I can reach. God is my Creator and the Earth is my Mother. I live in and follow the precepts of Light, Life, Love, Truth, Beauty and all that is Good. All learning shows me clearly the self-replicating fractal design of the All that Is. From this fountain springs my artistic portrayal of my World.

I am abundantly blessed to be living in the middle of a tiny valley, on the Pacific Ocean, surrounded by a forest of majestic proportions. Great bull elk bound over the horse fence like it was non-existent whenever the notion hits them. The deceptively placid elk cows and their calves grace my front lawn at dawn for early breakfast. I experience my life along with bear, mountain lion and myriad other members of the animal kingdom, both wild and domestic, and am daily grateful for the privilege. I have had many deep exchanges with them that I have found mystifying and amazing. Only through acceptance have I folded them into my life.

I am a lifetime student of light, form and color as I perceive it. My desire to create is fueled by my need to portray what I see and experience to those who may be moved by my efforts. The creative spirit is strong in our souls and only needs to be cultivated by the desire to learn and grow. My World is my teacher. Art has been an instrument of personal expression as long as I can remember, a way of representing my world as it unfolds before me.

Born to a family that traveled extensively, I was taught early to read and draw as a way of amusing myself on long trips. By age four I was creating recognizable pictures.  I honor and bless my Mom for her nurturing and encouragement. At intervals, I've been painting and drawing since then.  Inspired by great art along the way, my studies have brought me to the current point of my expression.

In the early 1980’s I again began to draw and paint. I also began carving in bas relief. Then I began to carve carousel horses. In 1993 I moved to my present location.  Caught up in the unparalleled beauty of the rugged Pacific Coast, I couldn’t resist painting my surroundings. My watercolor work expanded, as well as oil, pastel and other media. I was led to begin creating wall sculptures of redwood and smaller pieces of wood sculpture, all from driftwood.

In 1997 I acquired my first computer and I started creating digital art.  It was a new land with a new language. Not easy, but so worth the effort of learning.   My digital inspiration is the work of the pioneers who have developed the software and hardware that drives this dynamic digital art movement, a realm that fascinates me.

My current artistic goal is to carve a niche in my time to devote my energy more to creating and less to life’s necessities and demands.
